Pencil Artist of the Week: Nick Sickelton

Pencil Artist Nick Sickelton

This week’s featured artist creates pencil art that is a bit different from our standard fare. His name is Nick Sickelton, and he is an art director, logo designer, letterer and multi-disciplined creative who loves to create with pencils. And, frankly, we love what he creates with them.

Nick’s Instagram, Facebook and Twitter feeds are filled with lettering and logo projects he has completed for various clients presented as finely tuned, meticulously crafted digital images. Nick is a proponent of showing his work so, in addition to finished pieces, Nick also posts images of his works in progress.

Every project, no matter how polished or refined the outcome, begins as a rough pencil sketch. His pencil of choice for these rough sketches? The Palomino Blackwing Pearl.

Nick’s style is completely his own and, therefore, difficult to put into words. He works with both serif and sans-serif letters, and is masterful in each realm. He was a nominee for Forbes’ 2015 30 Under 30 list, and was a winner of the Logo of the Year award. I always try to articulate what caught my attention about a particular artist’s work but, in this case, I think it’s best if I let the work itself do the talking.
