Pencil Artist of the Week: Asen Iosifov Tasev

This week’s featured artist is Asen Iosifov Tasev, a pencil artist from Bulgaria who creates stylized portraits using a combination of graphite pencils, watercolor pencils, ink and coffee.

Asen graduated from the “St. Kliment Ohridski” University of Sofia with a bachelor’s degree in the arts. Each of his drawings features a style that is catered specifically to the medium he is using. His graphite drawings feature a rough, sketched style, while his watercolor drawings feature a more fluid, ambiguous style. His use of coffee to stain the paper is a particularly interesting technique he uses to add depth to his watercolor drawings.
