Pencil Artist of the Week: Sandrid Navarro
This week’s featured pencil artist is Sandrid Navarro, a pencil artist from Colombia who creates color pencil drawings of people, animals and more. Sandrid uses a combination of Prismacolor color pencils, Faber-Castell color pencils and Fabriano paper for her drawings. It’s how she chooses her subjects, however, that really drew me in.
Sandrid only creates drawings based on images that she can connect to in some way. “[All of the] images chosen must always have something in common with me. Either their color, tones, expression, environment, etc.” Unlike many artists, Sandrid’s drawings don’t just reveal the artistic side of her personality, they reveal facets of the person behind the art.

As a pencil nerd, I loved browsing through Sandrid’s gallery because every drawing is presented alongside the pencils she used to create the piece. In some cases, especially with the more frequently used colors, these pencils are little more than nubs. Regardless of their size, seeing all of the pencils used alongside a finished drawing allows us to mentally recreate the artist’s creative process.
