Pencil Artist of the Week: 00rej

This week’s featured pencil artist goes by the handle 00rej on DeviantArt. Her DeviantArt profile is shrouded in mystery, containing very little information about the artist, with a half-cropped photo and cryptic quote serving as the only indication that there is anyone on the other side of the screen. She has galleries dedicated to digital and traditional art but, since this is the Pencils Blog, we’ll be focusing on her traditional pieces.

00rej’s style can be described as fantastic and fanciful, borrowing elements and tropes from fantasy authors and Japanese animators in equal parts. The results are drawings that would be at home in the pages of a fantasy pocketbook or a manga

My favorite drawing featured in 00rej’s gallery is a drawing of a raven she created for her mother. The background of the raven was created using a combination of pencils, and the foreground was created using a ballpoint pen. This mixture of tools is a constant in her creative process, as she mixes wood cased HB pencils, 0.5 mechanical pencils and 0.7 ballpoint pens to achieve the details in her drawings.
