Pencil Artist of the Week: Ann Kullberg
This week’s featured pencil artist is a bit of detour from our usual featured artists. Her name is Ann Kullberg, and she chooses to create her pencil art with color pencils rather than graphite pencils. But, hey, this is Pencils.com, and a color pencil is still a pencil. It doesn’t hurt that the results are so impressive either.
Ann’s family noticed her natural talent for drawing at a very young age. It wasn’t until Ann was 31, however, that she began to devote herself entirely to art. Since then, she has garnered awards, received national attention and had her work published in a number of publications, including the Journal of the American Society of Portrait Artists. She currently sells a drawing course on her website designed to help aspiring artists reach the level of mastery that she has reached.
The subjects of Ann’s portraits are usually children. She captures these subjects in a style that is (to this viewer) vaguely reminiscent of Norman Rockwell, but with an added level of realism. From the shadows made by light coming through an open window, to the grain of the hardwood flooring, every detail is accounted for, and all of it is created with color pencils. The product is pencil art that is as beautiful as it is inspiring.
