Pencil Artist of the Week: Crystal (yummypomegranate)

This week’s featured pencil artist is Crystal, a pencil artist, painter and photographer who goes by the handle yummypomegranate on DeviantArt. Crystal’s DeviantArt gallery is filled with sketches, doodles, and paintings depicting everything from shoes to skulls, each realized in a different style that shows the breadth of her artistic ability.

Below are three of Crystal’s pencil drawings, each showing off a different facet of her artistic arsenal. The skull sketch is drawn using a rough style consisting of sharp lines and geometric shading, and the resulting hard angles give the drawing a chiseled look.

Her bike drawing, on the other hand, features a much more realistic style. A portion of the drawing is left unfinished, giving us a look at the progression of the piece from simple outline to detailed still-life.

Finally, Crystal’s mermaid drawing is drawn using cartoon proportions and heavy, comic-esque lines. The resulting drawing looks as if it were pulled straight from the pages of a children’s storybook.
