Pencil Artist of the Week: Rajacenna

Last week, we mentioned this week’s pencil artist on our Tumblr page. At the time, we did not know her name, where she came from or where she learned to wield a pencil. Well, now we do.

Her name is Rajacenna, and she is an 18-year-old Dutch model, actress and artist. She took up pencil portrait drawing in 2009, at the age of 16, and now creates some of the most realistic pencil portraits we’ve ever seen. To top it all off, she hasn’t had any formal training. That’s right, her power over the pencil is 100-percent natural.

It’s hard to believe that some of her portraits are, in fact, made with just a pencil and paper. The portrait of Lady Gaga posted in this article, however, is especially impressive. From the reflection on her glove, to the details of her face, every aspect of the image is as close to photo-realism as a pencil artist can get. So close, that we wouldn’t have believed that it was actually a pencil drawing had we not watched this video.
