Pencil Artist of the Week: Ed McNeil
This week’s featured artist is Ed McNeil, a pencil artist from the United States who creates drawings, sketches and paintings of animals and pop-culture icons. Ed broke down his favorite tools for creating his traditional drawings:
“The types of pencils I use are Prismacolor Premier, General’s Charcoals and Derwent Watercolor pencils. I also use Strathmore or Canson papers in various colors and textures.”
Ed uses a variety a pencils and papers to create his drawings, but some of his most striking works are created on black paper. Ed favors the profile perspective for these drawings (viewing the subject from the side), and he uses a combination of vibrant colors, white shading and black negative space to bring the drawings to life.
