Pencil Artist of the Week: Nick Williams
This week’s featured pencil artist is Nick Williams, an artist living in the United Kingdom. After spending a considerable amount of time exploring and admiring the works of artists on DeviantArt.com, Nick decided to take up drawing and contribute some works of his own. In 2011, he completed his first serious drawing in over 25 years and posted it on his newly-created DeviantArt profile. The response was so overwhelmingly positive and instructive, he has been posting drawings ever since.
Nick is still a student of drawing, and he takes full advantage of his relative naivety to the medium. He enjoys “experimenting and trying new techniques” with the goal of “improving with each new piece submitted,” and this desire to continue to learn is on full display in his various pencil drawings.
In the slideshow below, you can see three of Nick’s drawings with three different techniques as their main focus. The first drawing, “Contemplation,” plays with the idea of light and how a subject looks under different lighting conditions. The second drawing, “Baldrick,” examines color and how it impacts an image. The third drawing, “Time Lines,” uses texture and focus to draw our attention to the details the artist wants the viewer to look at. All three drawings are expertly done, but all three use a different technique to draw the viewer in.
