Pencil Artist of the Week: Lissa Rachelle
This week’s featured pencil artist is Lissa Rachelle, a third-generation artist born and raised in Ottawa, Canada. Lissa works with both color pencils and graphite, using the strengths of both mediums to create captivating pencil creations.
Lissa’s draws (pun intended) on her husband’s photography to create many of the realistic pencil drawings in her online gallery, while her more fantastical drawings are a direct result of a vivid and inspiring imagination.
While Lissa’s drawings are what initially grabbed my attention, a quote I found in her artist statement spoke to me on another level entirely:
My chosen medium is the humble pencil, both graphite and coloured pencil. I love the simplicity of pencil, the cleanliness, the accessibility and the portability of it. But mainly, I am passionate about the direct mind to pencil to story to art connection that working in pencil affords me. There are no delays while mixing colours; no pausing to clean brushes; no waiting for paint to dry; no interruptions in the “I think, therefore I create” process. I love that.
