Pencil Artist of the Week: Julie Popowicz
This week’s featured pencil artist is Julie Popowicz, a pencil artist living in Alberta, Canada. Julie was born in Germany (we all know the strong connection between Germany and pencils) and has been drawing for over 30 years. She experimented with both watercolors and pastels before settling on pencil as her medium of choice, and boy are we glad that she did.
The subjects of Julie’s works range from portraits, to nature studies, to rodeo action shots. Every piece is created with a striking level of detail using only pencils, a creative process that every pencil purist can appreciate.
Julie finds a “special beauty in the simplicity of drawing with a pencil” and loves the convenience of being able to “draw almost anytime, anywhere” that a pencil affords. She does commissioned portraits of people and animals, and can be contacted through her website.
