Pencil Artist of the Week: Kelli Swan

This week’s Pencil Artist of the Week is Kelli Swan, award winning pencil artist and owner of Cygnet Graphics. Her black and white pencil drawings feature subjects ranging from dogs and horses to people drawn in stunningly realistic detail, but it’s her interest in and insight into her own creative process that really caught our attention.

Kelli has an entire section of her website dedicated to how she creates. She details every step in her creative process, starting with her preliminary sketches and ending with her finishing touches. She also, however, details what tools she uses during the process. Some steps require the firm graphite of an H pencil, while others require the softer lead of a B. In order to achieve the desired results, Kelli’s tools and techniques must work hand in hand.
