Pencil Artist of the Week: TheFlyingMagpie
This week’s featured artist is a DeviantArt user and pencil artist who goes by the handle “TheFlyingMagpie.” TheFlyingMagpie’s DeviantArt gallery is filled with sketches of animated characters, wildlife and pets, but it’s his recently posted drawings of classic American cars that jumped out while we were browsing his gallery.
TheFlyingMagpie’s car drawing series currently features four drawings of four different vehicles: the Ford Falcon, Ford Mustang, Dodge Charger and Pontiac Grand Prix. Each drawing sports an incredible level of detail, but his Ford Falcon and Ford Mustang drawings are especially impressive thanks to his ability to recreate the reflections in each car’s paint.
In each Ford drawing, you can make out the vehicle’s surroundings thanks to the details TheFlyingMagpie was able to include in the reflections. The Ford Mustang appears to be sitting on a dirt road next to a pickup truck, while the Ford Falcon looks to be parked outside of a garage beside a house. The artist’s ability to recreate the settings for the drawings without taking the focus off of the vehicles is remarkable.
