Pencil Artist of the Week: Makrigiannis Stilianos

This week’s featured pencil artist does something I’ve never seen done with pencils. His name is Makrigiannis Stilianos, and he creates art and jewelry out of pencil shavings. Yes, you read that correctly, pencil shavings.

Makrigiannis’ creations take the form of bracelets, necklaces, earrings and more made up of perfectly spiraled pencil shavings. His latest project celebrates the pencil as a catalyst for creativity and imagination. “I grew up with pencils and I love them for their aroma and the fact that bring to life our imagination,” said Makrigiannis while describing the project.

Along the shaving spiral that makes up his latest creation is the quote “Pencils… with color or not they accompany us from our first drawing of our lives! With their own heart, scent and color they bring to life every picture of our imagination and every thought… All you need is a pencil to give a bit of yourself …”
