Pencil Artist of the Week: Greg Stout
This week’s featured pencil artist is Greg Stout, a penciler and graphic designer (and much, much more) living in Sunnyvale, California. Greg was born in Lewiston, Idaho where his interest in art began when he was eight years old. He studied art through high school and designed his first professional logo before he graduated. Greg then studied illustration and painting at the University of Idaho where he received a Bachelors of Fine Art.
After graduation he worked as a graphic designer, airbrush artist, and illustrator for companies like Art Beat Incorporated, Triad Publishing, as well as his own freelance graphic design business where one of his illustrations was featured in the film X-men 2. Looking for a change, Greg moved to the east coast to pursue more education. He received his Master’s Degree in Sequential art from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
He became an instructor at the International Academy of Design and Technology in Orlando, Florida teaching classes in illustration, story boarding, character creation, and graphic design. Greg was quickly promoted to the department chair position for the Game Design department. After running the department for a few years, he was offered a job at the Art Institute of California – Sunnyvale as the academic department director for the graphic design, web design, game art, animation and foundation art departments. In a little over a year, he was then promoted to the Dean of Academic Affairs. Eager to return to the classroom, Greg joined Starting Arts as an instructor and designer. He continues to teach and also owns a clothing company called Toxic Cotton. More of Greg’s artwork can be seen below and at www.stoutstudios.com!
