Pencil Artist of the Week: Dan Vitali
This week’s featured pencil artist is Dan Vitali, an artist living in Stamford, Connecticut. Dan started drawing at a young age after discovering that he could replicate his favorite cartoon characters with a pencil and a piece of paper. After many years away from his sketchpad, Dan recently picked up his pencil again with a focus on pencil portraits.
Dan strives for realism in all of his portraits, and he is able to recreate his subjects with great accuracy. Dan finds the challenge of drawing accurately extremely rewarding, often spending 20-40 hours on a single portrait. He uses Staedtler Mars Lumograph graphite pencils for all of his drawings, and his favorite tool to use is a drafting divider for measuring proportions.

Dan is just getting back into his craft, so he does not currently have a website where you can browse his portfolio, but we can’t wait to see more from him in the near future.

Beautiful work. Congratulations
Absolutely beautiful work!
I too enjoyed drawing for many years, then I had kids and set aside my own interests. This gentleman seems to truly capture emotion and life in the eyes. I find babies especially hard to draw, so hope to see more from this artist, perhaps with suggestions and tips on how he makes such true to life subjects.
Can you draw Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?
