Pencil Artist of the Week: Sara Elena Meloni

Pencil Artist Sara Elena Meloni

This week’s featured artist is Sara Elena Meloni, a pencil artist from Italy who creates realistic pencil drawings using a variety of graphite sources. In fact, according to Sarah, she uses “too much graphite,” but I think she uses just the right amount.

Sara uses a combination of Lyra, Koh-I-Noor and Cretacolor pencils, micro line pens, and graphite powder to create her drawings. Her favorite tool, however, is the Koh-I-Noor graded graphite pencil ranging from HB to 8B.

Most of Sara’s drawings are extremely realistic, full-sized portraits, but Sara has been uploading images to DeviantArt for over seven years, so there are a number of surprises/experiments to be found while browsing her gallery. One of these surprises comes in the form of a series of drawings no larger than a 2 Euro coin. The level of detail she is able to recreate in such a small space is amazing, and really shows off her ability to recognize and recreate the essential details of a subject.
