This is What a $225 Pencil Sharpener Looks Like

Matterhorn Sharpener

The Matterhorn Pencil Sharpening machine is a rotary sharpener not unlike the rotary sharpeners found on classroom walls around the world. But that’s where the similarities end. The Matterhorn is truly a machine, giving you precise control over the point of your pencil.

The sharpener features a metal grip that allows it to sharpen pencils of varying diameters and a dial that allows you to adjust the length of the point achieved. The sharpener is adept at creating a long writing point or a blunt point for coloring and shading. It’s matte red finish and chrome accents are a tribute to Matterhorn and the Swiss flag that flies above it.

Each Matterhorn Pencil Sharpening Machine comes cased in an oversized metal box to house the sharpener when it’s not in use. There were only 4,478 of these sharpeners made, one for each meter in the climb to the top of the Matterhorn.
