Pencil Artist of the Week: David Bulle

Pencil Artist David Bulle

This week’s featured pencil artist is David Bulle, a cartoonist, sculptor and comic artist living in Nancy, France. The subjects of David’s works are often gargoyles, golems, and other fantastical creatures from his imagination, but he has also produced movie posters, film storyboards and concept art, and comics featuring a wide variety of characters.

Though he primarily works in inks and watercolors, David shared some pencil drawings with us that he created for a French film about the first World War.

David’s style is rough, allowing you to see the texture of the paper and the movement of the graphite in each drawing. It’s a style I’m drawn to (pun intended) because it shows off the way graphite interacts with the drawing surface and lets you trace the artist’s creative process as you study the drawing.

If you want to see more of David’s work, you can check out his website or his Facebook page.

What do you think Studio 602ers? Do you prefer rough-done drawings, or hyper-realistic recreations? Sound off in the comments section!
