Pencil Artist of the Week: Jack Flamel

This week’s featured artist is ink, digital, and pencil artist Jack Flamel. Jack’s DeviantArt profile is filled with an eclectic mix of works, from ink sketches and pencil doodles, to tattoo drawings and digital portraits. Jack’s sketches, which feature his signature “spooky” style, show off Jack’s identity as an artist and as a person, but it was his digital portraits that really caught our attention.

Now, I know what you must be thinking, “I thought this was supposed to be about a pencil artist.” Well, all of Jack’s digital portraits start with a pencil drawing. He then scans the pencil drawing and fills in the color, shading, etc. on his computer. The results are digital paintings that are incredibly detailed thanks, in part, to their graphite skeletons.

Jack’s traditional pencil drawings are much more fantastical in nature, and often depict characters from Jack’s favorite movies, TV shows, and stories. The subjects of these drawings often feature long, thin limbs and hard, defined faces, giving the drawings a grim (or as he likes to call it “spooky”) look.
