Pencil Artist of the Week: Nicole Fekaris

Pencil Artist Nicole Fekaris

This week’s featured pencil artist is Nicole Fekaris, a self-taught pencil artist and mirror writer living in West Virginia. She is a lifetime member of EBSQ, a group that provides its community of artists, artisans and photographers with the tools they need to self-represent their art. She also creates some of the most compelling and interesting pencil art we’ve ever featured.

Nicole’s pencil art can best be described as abstract, though that only scratches the surface of what her art truly is. She uses white space, combined with deep blacks and middling greys to create drawings that are full of movement and contrast. She combines these streaking bands of graphite with mirror writing, a technique that sees her backwards so that the text can only be read while looking in a mirror. The result is art that is not only reflective in the literal sense, but in the metaphorical sense as well.
