Pencils and Pop-Culture: Blackwings in the Wild!
Usually I reserve this space as a spot to muse on pencils and pop culture on a broad scale. However, lately our Palomino Blackwing and Palomino Blackwing 602 pencils have been popping up in some pretty cool places, lending themselves to a pencils and pop culture round up of their own.
While we’ve always loved their smooth dark line, sleek design and storied heritage, now you don’t just have to take our word for it. Here’s a round up of recent press that’s featured our beloved Palomino Blackwing pencils.
The New Yorker Culture Desk: My Life in Pencils (A beautifully written essay by Mary Norris)
Salon.com – The Genius Pencil (The name says it all)
Outblush: Blackwing 602 Writing Pencil (We agree, they look great atop a gift for a creative friend!)
Guest of a Guest: The Blackwing Experience – Celebrating Creativity and Innovation (A great round up of photos from the Blackwing Experience party in New York City)
Part of the reason I love writing for Studio 602 is because I get to be part of a legacy and artistic heritage that I admire greatly. It’s been quite the learning experience, and I’m proud to have come into contact with such a fantastic group of artists, musicians and writers. The attention that the Palomino Blackwing has received would not have been possible without some very creative, very talented people (Hi Justin, Leora, Claire and Lesli!), but it also would not have been possible without you. The fans of the Palomino Blackwing family of products are committed, passionate advocates for pencils, and it’s because of your Tweets and Facebook postings, your sketches and your words that the Palomino Blackwing is experiencing it’s current pop culture renaissance.
All of us at Studio 602 are proud to be a part of the Blackwing legacy, and we’re proud to be a part of the pencil community. We all look forward to continuing this journey and this relationship in the years to come.
