Product Profile: Caran d’Ache Pencil Sharpening Machine
Yesterday, we announced the addition of several new Caran d’Ache products to the current offerings available on Pencils.com. Today, we’re going to take a closer look at one of these products and what makes it one of the most unique items available on our site. Enter the Caran d’Ache pencil sharpening machine.

Right off the bat, you’ll notice that this isn’t just any pencil sharpener; it’s a pencil sharpening machine. When it was first introduced in 1933, Caran d’Ache’s pencil sharpening machine was renowned for its revolutionary level of precision and it’s incredibly functional design. These traits, combined with Caran d’Ache’s commitment to exceptional quality, put the pencil sharpening machine leagues above any other pencil sharpener on the market.
This year, Caran d’Ache celebrated the 80th anniversary of this cult sharpener by reissuing it in its original tin box. The sharpener is available on Pencils.com in two versions: the classic edition and the 80th anniversary edition.
The Classic Edition

The Classic Edition of the Caran d’Ache Pencil Sharpening Machine features the original design introduced in the 1930’s. Its chrome accented finish and sepia-toned box call back to the Belle Epoque, and evoke a sense of timelessness not often found in products today.
The 80th Anniversary Edition

The 80th Anniversary Edition of the Caran d’Ache Pencil Sharpening Machine features the timeless 1930’s design, updated with a matte black finish and chrome accents. Its tin box features the same matte black and chrome motif, giving the entire package an elegant look. This sharpener is limited to 1933 numbered units, making it a must have for any sharpener or Caran d’Ache enthusiast.
The machine’s performance is the same across both models: superb. Each sharpener features an adjustable clamp that gently holds the pencil in place and automatically draws the pencil into the sharpening mechanism as the crank is turned. A removable drawer catches all of the shavings for quick and easy cleanup and maintenance, and the included mounting bracket ensures that the sharpener stays put during use.
Both models are available on Pencils.com. Check them out here.
