Andrew Combs Hits the Road
Andrew Combs took the music world by storm nearly one year ago when his debut album Worried Man rained down on record stores, radio stations, and concert venues across the globe. American Songwriter Magazine thought highly enough of it to name it the 26th best album of 2012, one of the few debut albums to make the list. It made a big enough impression on Palomino that they asked him to headline their Blackwing Sessions benefit show at the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity in southern California last June. While his stage presence and performing ability continue to get better with age, as a songwriter, he’s already well beyond his years. With crisp melodies that compliment impeccable phrasing reminiscent of the early works of Mickey Newbury and John Prine, Combs lets his music breath so that the listener’s consumption is effortless and spellbinding.
It’s hard to pin a genre to Combs’ music. Alone on a stage, he’s the consummate folk singer. When backed by his adopted band Steelism, there’s plenty of rock and a bit of soul. He’s got country roots, raised in Texas while adoring the likes of Kris Kristofferson, Guy Clark and Willie Nelson, and a voice that can sing any song as efficiently as it can spin the stories behind them. Combs is a throwback of sorts, but one with ideas as fresh as they are familiar.
Combs is set to bring his talents back to California for his first full length tour of the western U.S. After stops in Houston and Austin, Combs will play shows in Tucson, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle.
Combs will be joined on tour by folk-rock titans Houndmouth who themselves are worth every dollar of admission.
