12 Year Old Songwriter Sensation Ned The Kids Dylan

Ned Mansfield, better known by his stage name Ned The Kids Dylan, is an energetic and free-spirited musician and songwriter who plays original music with an authenticity not seen on the Pop Charts nowadays. Did I forget to mention he’s only twelve years old?

Ned has charisma and a talent for songwriting that’d be admirable of a musician at any age, let alone a young man of only twelve years.

Talking with Ned over the last few days and watching his live performances on the web had me convinced that he’s definitely got what it takes.

As you’ll see from his videos, he’s bursting with energy, a real showman, hopping across the stage and interacting with his fans as he performs.

We’re not the first to notice the potential of this young star. Ned has also had his music featured in American Songwriter. Emma Alford, a writer for American Songwriter remarked, “Ned is definitely a young, budding star to watch. Who knows, maybe he’ll be the next opening act on Dylan’s Never Ending Tour.”

Young Ned is already making his rounds on the festival circuit around the UK, taking every opportunity to get up on stage. One can only wonder if he keeps it up whether he’ll be touring the United States, soon.

When talking to Ned about his latest EP, Ned said, “I think the EP is about how people interact with each other, however I do like to leave meanings vague so it can mean different things and speak out to all kinds of people! I tried to encapsulate a kind of ‘People Power’ spirit with the cover by getting people to send in photos of themselves!”

Not only does Ned insist that he’ll keep trying to make the best music he can, he lives by this motto. Young Ned recalled an instance at the Sunrise Festival where he followed his inclination to seize the moment, and was surprised where it led.

NED: “I think it’s important in life to seize EVERY opportunity you can! Who knows where it could lead? For instance I saw that the main stage was closed at a festival called Sunrise, but saw music was still being played through the stage’s speakers! So I said, ‘So, what are you going to have on the stage for the rest of the weekend?’ They replied ‘nothing’ so I said I’ll play for you! And look where it led.”

The video below shows Ned making good use of the stage playing “Brands Are 4 Cattle.” It seems Ned hates to see a good stage going to waste and couldn’t help but use the opportunity to perform.
