More Drawing Websites Every Artist Should Follow
DeviantART Forums
We all know DeviantART is a place where artists can showcase their work and view the work of others, but it’s also a place where artists can discuss everything from shading techniques to how to support yourself as an artist. The forums are a space for lively debate and dialogue between all types of artists from all over the world, and provide a great opportunity to seek answers for all your burning drawing-related questions.
Draw as a Maniac
Draw as a Maniac features galleries of illustrations by professional artists, as well as tutorials ranging from basic to advanced. There are even tutorials for more specialized artists, such as cartoonists and Photoshop illustrators. They compile drawing resources from all over the internet, giving a broad range of styles and techniques.
Wishcandy
This is the website of the very talented Sashiko Yuen, who draws inspiration from retro culture, street fashion, and the grotesque. Her art is colorful, edgy, and fun, featuring unique details you may need to look twice to discover. She is open for commissions, and open to communication with her fellow artists, so if you like her work don’t be shy about connecting with her via email or Twitter!
My Modern Met
Not all of posts on the My Modern Met blog are about writing specifically – all kinds of art are welcome. There are posts about incorporating drawing with other art forms, like sculpture, and even a post about pencils.
Drawing Board
When you’re stuck on a drawing, frustrated and tired of fighting with your pencil, read a few Drawing Board comics. These simple and funny black-and-white comics are a good way to clear your head, and may even provide you with some drawing inspiration. They’re also fun to print and color in when you’re really stuck and just feel like coloring.
Spyre Studios
This is a another website that encompasses more kinds of art than just drawing, but it still provides a lot of drawing-related content such as this awesome post on Moleskine drawings. A feature I also find incredibly useful is a job board, where you can browse and post art-related jobs. I fully believe in art for art’s sake, but we all gotta eat.
P.S. If that Moleskine post got you inspired, I recommend picking up one of these hardcover sketchbooks and seeing what you can come up with.
Johan Thornqvist
The art of Johan Thornqvist combines photography and 3D elements with drawing to whimsical effect. His work is intricate and highly original. Several of his drawings are also available on t-shirts, so make sure to check out that part of his site as well.
Hand-Drawn Websites
If you thought traditional drawing has no place in the digital world, think again! This is a link to a list of forty websites that incorporate hand-drawn elements. Graphic designers who are also handy with a pencil should not be afraid to combine their skill sets, as these cool and creative websites show.
Mathew Borrett
Have you been confused about how to use negative space ever since your art teacher brought it up in junior high? Mathew Borrett is the best example I’ve ever seen of how to implement negative space to maximum effect.
OnlineDrawingLessons.org
This website teaches a variety of techniques with a broad range of mediums, from pencils to oil pastels. Helpful video tutorials teach you to draw portraits, animals, landscapes, caricatures, and everything in between, in gray scale and in color. All ages and skill levels are welcome.
I hope you’ve been inspired to get drawing! If there are any drawing websites you love that didn’t make it on our list, drop a link in the comments!
