Pencil Artist of the Week: Anita Patterson
This week’s featured pencil artist is Anita Patterson, a pencil artist from the United Kingdom who creates observational drawings of the places she visits. Anita’s gallery is filled with drawings created using a combination of graphite pencils, color pencils, watercolor pencils and ballpoint pens. Anita was kind enough to give us a bit of insight into her creative process:
“I often use pencils such as HB, 2B, 3B, 4B and ExB to create tonal drawings. for other drawings i use coloured pencil (normal coloured pencil and also the watercolour coloured pencils) and biro pen. I use simple ‘sketch pad’ paper which generally is a bit thicker and better quality then general paper but nothing you can’t get from a shop nearby!
I like to pay particular attention to detail, tone and blending when drawing. I still have much to experiment and different ways of drawing to try but currently i really like to do observational drawings.”
Anita accompanies all of her drawings with the photograph she used for inspiration. Seeing each drawing side by side with its photograph counterpart make’s her skill with a pencil (and pen) all the more impressive.
