Pencil Artist of the Week: Madonna Hassinen
This week’s featured pencil artist is Madonna Hassinen, a pencil artist from Helsinki, Finland. Madonna is inspired by the Golden Age of Disney animated films, and this inspiration shows through in her work. Her drawings feature the smooth, confident lines that are the hallmark of an experienced animator, and her DeviantArt gallery is filled with (literally) hundreds of drawings, sketches and doodles.
Madonna was kind enough to give us some details about 5 of her drawings, including the tools she uses and the reasons behind each piece.

“This drawing is done by Prismacolor (Sanford) Ebony Jet Black Pencils and I drew this just for fun and to try practice the Glen Keane-style technique but in my own style. I have had the experience of how to use this ebony jet black pencil before and then I thought that I should continue practice with different pencils since I have been drawing a lot with Photoshop.”

“This is done by Tombow 100 (2B) pencil.”

“This is actually first of the few drawings I did when I first purchased the infamous Blackwing pencils early this year (Feb). I was actually quite surprised that Blackwing pencil. It is really good. It’s no wonder why it is nicknamed “the best pencil ever made”.”

“This is done by Blackwing pencils and I was practicing it with my sketchbook. Then I started to draw this to practice the profile face perspective and rest of it is just for fun

“This is done by also Blackwing pencil (Blackwing Pearl). This actually came out of whim while I was drawing this.”

I have known Madonna for quite a few years and watched her strive to perfect her skills. She is unmatched in her drive to be the best. I’m fortunate enough to have a signed picture she drew and will treasure it forever.
