Pencil Artist of the Week: Laura Lee

This week’s featured pencil artist is an artist and writer by the name of Laura Lee. She’s worn hats ranging from window display painter to middle school teacher, but it seems she’s found her calling in writing graphic novels.

Laura’s first graphic novel, Page by Paige, has recently been nominated for an Eisner Award and is also the first graphic novel to be nominated for the ALA Teen Top Ten List. She is currently working on her sophomore effort titled Will & Whit, which is set to be released in May of 2013.

Laura’s drawing style is whimsical and fun and her characters draw upon this style to tackle serious subjects without taking themselves too seriously. The results of this can be seen in Laura’s graphic novel, but they can also be seen in her stand-alone illustrations as well.
