Pencil Artist of the Week: Bob Camp
This week’s pencil artist is a bit more high profile than our previous artists, but that doesn’t make him any less amazing. His name is Bob Camp, but you may know him as the creative mind behind The Ren & Stimpy Show, one of Nickelodeon’s most unique and memorable animated series. This artist’s talents and achievements don’t stop at drawing cats and chihuahuas, however; they also extend into the realms of comics, film and all areas of television.
In addition to The Ren & Stimpy Show, Camp has served as an artist on the television series Thundercats, Cow and Chicken, Family Guy and Grim and Evil, just to name a few. He has worked as an illustrator for Marvel Comics and as a storyboard artist for a number of Hollywood films, including How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, Osmosis Jones and Looney Tunes: Back in Action. To top it off, Bob has been nominated for two Emmys and is a regular speaker on the Comic Convention circuit.
Yet, despite his success and busy schedule, Bob still finds the time to maintain his personal blog, where viewers can check out some of his recent sketches. These sketches caught our eye because they give you a rare glimpse into the creative mind of a real working animator. Some of them are profiles of new, original characters, while others feature his two most well known creations, Ren and Stimpy. The sketches that feature Ren and Stimpy are especially interesting because, even though they contain two of television’s most notorious characters, they are still just sketches in an artist’s notebook. Hilarious, satirical sketches, yes, but sketches all the same.
