Caran d’Ache has a special tie to the worlds of design, painting and writing and emphasizes its expertise in color by offering creative professionals the Luminance 6901 colour pencil. The Luminance 6901 is a new range of colour pencils that have a combination of the highest lightfastness and the smoothness of a permanent lead. Two years of research went into developing the formulation in the greatest secrecy in the Geneva workshops.

Luminance 6901 guarantees creative professionals and artists quality for their work. In addition to the highest lightfastness, the Luminance 6901 leads benefit from an extreme softness which enables to obtain subtle mixings and gradations, as well as blendings. Every shade has been formulated using finely-ground pigments chosen for their purity, intensity and resistance to UV.

Designed to be 100% lightfast and 61 of the 76 colours carry the standard ASTM D6901, which is the highest international standard concerning coloured pencils’ lightfastness. Caran d’Ache is Swiss manufacturer of high-quality writing instruments, fine art products, and accessories. Caran d’Ache was founded in Geneva in 1924 when Arnold Schweitzer purchased the Ecridor Pencil Factory. Schweitzer named his new company after Caran d’Ache, the nickname of a French satiric political cartoonist from Russia. “Caran d’Ache” comes from the Russian word karandash, meaning pencil.
