Pencil Artist of the Week: Phadme
This week’s featured pencil artist is Barbara, a pencil artist from Spain who creates drawings inspired by Japanese mange and anime. She goes by the handle Phadme on DeviantArt, and her gallery is filled with exquisitely lined pencil drawings of popular Japanese characters and characters of her own design.
I use the word “exquisitely” to describe Barbara’s line work because it was the first thing that jumped out at me when I viewed her drawings. Every drawing features crisp, dark lines and minimal shading that really lets the line work pop.
Barbara uses a Faber-Castell 0.3mm pencil for the bulk of her drawings. She also calls on her Faber-Castell 0.7mm pencil for plotting expression lines, her Pencil Faber-Castell HB pencils for contour drawing, and her Faber-Castell 4B pencil for shadows. She uses a Staedtler pencil eraser for most of her erasing and a Faber-Castell eraser for large erasures.
