Faber-Castell GRIP 2001

Faber-Castell’s GRIP 2001 is a triangular pencil with patented rubberized dots for easy gripping. The triangular design makes them fit comfortably in your hand while the rubberized dots keep it in place. These unique pencils are available in both graphiteⁱ and color leads. While the graphite GRIP’s are perfect for general writing, the Color GRIPs’ smooth colors blend easily for artists big and small since they come in regular and jumbo size as well. The Color GRIPs and Jumbo GRIPs can also work as watercolor pencils. The graphite GRIP’s are available in five grades of hardness including 2H, 2B, H, B or HB. The lead is composed of finely ground, high-quality graphite to ensure smooth, uniform lines and are also SV bonded for break-resistant lead which is also easy to sharpen. All the materials used to make these pencils are non-toxic and safe for children.

Faber-Castell has a rich history leading back to Germany more than 240 years ago. German cabinet-maker Caspar Faber branched out and started a small pencil company in 1761. After three generations of Faber’s ran the family business, the fourth, Lothar von Faber, brought the company to greatness by positioning the A.W. Faber line as the world’s first branded pencils. He did this through several innovations including developing the hexagonal shaped pencil to prevent the pencil from rolling in addition to inventing a system to assign the hardness of lead. Eventually these innovations became the industry standard.

The company came to the United States in 1849 when it opened a subsidiary in New York City and shortly after opened offices in Paris, London, Vienna, and St. Petersburg.
