Pencil Artist of the Week: Pat McMichael

, ,

This week’s pencil artist is Pat McMichael, a resident of southern New Jersey and an artist who specializes in graphite portraits and caricatures. His subjects range from pop-culture icons to video game characters, and each piece is completed using a toolset that contains both mechanical and traditional wood-cased pencils.

As you can tell, these aren’t your average theme park or boardwalk caricatures. Instead, Pat’s pieces are works of art that blend aspects of both realism and exaggeration to create a style that is completely his own. Each piece contains details that you would normally find in a realistic portrait, yet brings out the personality and character of the subject like only a caricature can. Readers that want a more in depth look at his creative process can check out his Facebook page, where Pat frequently updates his works in progress and even shares video tutorials with his followers.
